Same venue. Same teams. Same stakes. Pella High hosts Oskaloosa baseball tonight in the Class 3A Substate 6 final with a trip to Principal Park awaiting the winner. The Little Dutch took two-of-three from the Indians during their regular season conference series, with the one loss coming against a pair of pitchers that Oskaloosa more than likely won’t see except at the plate. Pella’s projected starter, Grant Judkins, has not faced Oskaloosa this season; in fact, Judkins hasn’t started a game versus the Indians since July 11 of last year when he pitched a complete game and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out nine. Oskaloosa’s starter is a mystery; they had to use four pitchers in their 10 – 6 win over Williamsburg in the district final on Monday, and a combination of senior Joey Sterner and Rian Yates on Friday in their first round game versus Grinnell. Coach Jesse Jablonski says Oskaloosa does many things well, which will make for a competitive substate final. KNIA/KRLS Sports is projecting Joey Sterner to make the start, or at least an appearance on the hill for Oskaloosa. He leads the team with a 1.89 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 44-plus innings. Pella won last year’s meeting between the two schools 7 – 4 at Pella High’s baseball field.
