The number five ranked team in class 2A, a team that had previously beat the Trojans 11-1 earlier in the season, was a test the Trojans passed last night as Pleasantville punched their ticket back to the State Tournament for the second year in a row with a 1-0 defeat of Van Meter last night.
Zeb Adreon got the start and pitched the game of his high school career so far, holding the Bulldogs to no hits through six and two thirds innings before surrendering a hit with one out to go in the game. Adreon picked up the final out to secure the victory, and his stellar performance was supplemented by 10 strikeouts. The Trojans offense gave them an early lead in the first inning starting with Adreon as the leadoff hitter getting plunked by a pitch. Coach Sheldon Card then called on his senior outfielder Brock Busick, who is second in class 2A in total hits and batting .459 on the season, to bunt Adreon over to second. The gutsy call paid off for the Trojans, as Ethan Worthington would hit a line drive single to the outfield to drive in the games only run. Pleasantville Head Coach Sheldon Card told KNIA/KRLS Sports that he is just so proud of this team for what they have accomplished. The Trojans are locked in as the seven seed at the State Tournament where they will face off in the quarterfinals against Beckman Catholic at 5pm in Principal Park next Monday.
