It’s been well documented this summer that Pella Christian’s baseball team surprised a few folks with their talent despite holding some question marks when the season started. Up and down the line-up and the pitching rotation, every player gave it their all, and their efforts led them to a 17 – 13 record. A pair of juniors also stood out to Coach Nathan Johnson in 2016. Mac Sarver started the year by helping get a combined no-hitter in their season opener versus Pleasantville in late May. Sarver did not pitch a single inning as a sophomore in 2015, and was just 3-for-30 at the plate. In the regular season, he went 4 – 2 with a 1.98 ERA and held opponents to a .169 batting average. The other junior, Wyatt Terpstra, threw ten innings last year and collected a 4.90 ERA. He showed marked improvement by going a spotless 4 – 0 in five starts with a 2.20 earned run average while collecting 34 strikeouts, tied for the team-high with Sarver. Coach Johnson says he’s excited to have them back for their senior years in 2017 to help carry the Eagles to greater heights.
