In the Iowa Conference, mens and womens soccer matches are played as double headers. Central College has taken that a step further and scheduled many of its non-conference matches as double headers as well.
Dutch women’s coach Mike Kobylinski says that the players enjoy hanging out together and learning from each other, and the coaches do too.
“Us travelling together, from a coaching standpoint, I still learn a lot from (men’s coach) Gary (Laidlaw). He’s a mentor of mine, still, and a colleague. It’s nice to have all of us coaches chatting, and whether we’re talking about soccer or other things, it’s nice to have like minded people there.”
Laidlaw added that he recently received an email from the parent of a women’s player volunteering to send treats on an upcoming road trip.
The Dutch will have their first opportunity to travel together when they open the 2016 season this weekend in Michigan, where each squad will play one game on Saturday and Sunday.
