Another year of Central College’s championship softball camp is in the books.
More than 50 campers from middle school through incoming collegiate freshman were taught the fundamentals of the game last week by Hall of Fame Coach George Wares, his award-winning coaching staff, alumni and current players.
They also participated in off-the-field activities such as a scavenger hunt and talent show, which Wares says are an equally important part of the week.
“I really want our current players and our campers to understand how important that family aspect is to us. Yes, we want to win, no question about that, but there’s so much more to it, at least we hope. And that’s what we try to do, during our regular season for this program, and also during this camp.”
The camp also featured a series of games, capped off last Thursday with a contest between the camp all-stars and the camp counselors. The counselors, which were both current and former players, beat the All-Stars 4-1.
