The Knights of Columbus in Pella will start their campaign for persons with intellectual disabilities on Saturday.
Members and local high school students will raise funds in front of the Pella HyVee, Fareway, and Walmart.
Funds raised go to Pella and Pella Christian schools, the Christian Opportunity Center, and the Special Olympics. Special Education Teacher Lorri Grubb at Pella High says the money has numerous benefits for students in their programs.
“The fundraising part of this helps in the fact that we go out and take the kids out for lunch and have the kids purchase a meal with whatever amount of money they may have to spend, they have to figure budgeting,” she says. “They might go clothes shopping and see what kind of clothes they might like to purchase to see if they have enough money to purchase the clothing. We do cooking, we would use the funds to purchase groceries for the students to cook.”
The Knights of Columbus campaign for intellectual disabilities begins on Saturday and continues through August 27th.
