The Knoxville Police Department has tracked crime statistics during Knoxville nationals for many years and Lieutenant Aaron Fuller says that although few serious incidents have occurred there is an upward trend in arrests.
Knoxville police made 25 arrests and those arrests resulted in 55 charges. Public intoxication, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts were all up over last year. Fuller says despite those numbers, the vast majority of race fans, visiting and local, respect the community and obey the law. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt echoes that praise. He says he negative interactions were down overall. The Raceway is county property and is patrolled by the Sheriff’s Office.
