In a season that surprised maybe everyone but themselves, the Pella Christian baseball team had a whopping four names listed as all-conference picks for 2016. Only one name was chosen for the first team; Clay Stravers was a unanimous choice for the Eagles. He hit a team-best .402, had 12 two-baggers, scored 33 runs, and stole 17 bases in 21 attempts. Stravers also recorded two saves on the mound while amassing a 2.10 ERA and 12 strikeouts.
The other three names were second-team selections for the Eagles. Pitcher Mac Sarver was at the top of the second-team list. His impressive junior season totaled out to a 1.98 ERA, 4 – 2 overall record, 34 strikeouts in 46 innings, and he held opponents to a .169 average.
Scott Haveman was the second choice at catcher in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The junior hit .310 in 2016, with 17 RBI, and he caught 18 of 35 baserunners stealing during his time as a backstop this year.
Will Dempski was the final Eagle on the second team All-Conference list. The freshman was the second-best batter on the team in terms of average, hitting .337, driving in 15, and only striking out seven times. Ben Bouwkamp and Kade Vander Molen were both honorable mentions for PC, who went 17 – 13 this year and finished fifth in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
