The Pella cross-country teams opened the season Saturday at Cedar Rapids Prairie.
The Lady Dutch finished 2nd with 70 points, trailing only Monticello’s 53. Tess Roorda finished fifth individually, Ciarra Buccheit was 12th, and Kelcey Blommers took 13th.
The Little Dutch finished 3rd with 103 points, well behind Mount Vernon / Lisbon and Marion, who had 31 and 45 points, respectively. Blaise Winegarder led the way with a fourth place individual finish.
Coach Doug Cutler says during the early part of this season, he’s helping his teams to develop synergy. He says that while the sport is a collection of individual scores, they can accomplish more as a well-knit group.
“As we develop those relationships and friendships, and we learn to trust each other, how to push each other, learn what motivates each person, why they’re out and what their ultimate goal is – as we learn those, then I think we can reach our highest potential.”
Up next for the Little Dutch and Lady Dutch is their home invitational next weekend at Central College.
