A total of 11 different sports teams contributed to Pella High’s dominance in the athletic arena during the 2015-16 school year. The Little and Lady Dutch won the “All Sports Trophy” for mid-sized schools with between 350-799 students. Points are factored based on placements at team state competitions; a team winning a state title earns 10 points, runners-up get eight, with six going to the third-place team, then five, four, and so on, until eighth place, which gets a point. A total of 5.5 points go to teams that make it to the semifinals at a state tournament, and 2.5 go to quarterfinalists. Pella finished with 77 points, breezing by second-place Dubuque Wahlert, who had 44.5. The most points for the Dutch came from football and boys’ state track earning ten each for state championships, girls’ cross country, track, basketball, and soccer all were runners-up, getting Pella High eight points per sport.
