You’re about to read a shocking sentence: athletes, especially talented ones, are extremely fun to watch. I’ll wait a few moments for you to find your head that was just blown off by that outrageous statement. Athletes at the high school level balance homework, other activities outside of sports, home life, and more and still show up to practice and on game night and perform at a high level, even if it means being stubborn about an injury. In 2015, Pella Christian softball pitcher, Emma Schnell, dealt with some tenderness in her hips that hampered her effectiveness on the rubber. This season, Schnell went 18 – 6 as a starter with a minuscule 1.59 ERA and 171 strikeouts. Coach Karen Harrill says with how far the Eagles went this year, you can’t overstate the impressiveness that Schnell brought forth in a “bounce back” season for her.In conference games only, Schnell struck out 66 batters and posted a still-low 1.90 ERA while going 6 – 4 in 11 starts. She will be returning for her senior season next summer.
