The newest officer at the Pella Police Department has been sworn in.
Two weeks after officer Andrew Shinkle was officially hired, Devin Mandi was added to the department’s ranks at the Pella City Council meeting by Councilmember Mark De Jong.
Mandi, a Central College graduate, tells KNIA/KRLS News he developed an interest in law enforcement while interning with the Pella Police Department.
“During my time as an intern, I just fell in love with the department and I got to know some of the officers very well, and realized it’s a very family-like atmosphere and family-oriented department,” Mandi says.
He’s excited to remain in Pella, and looks forward to the opportunity to serve the community.
“It’s a great honor, I’ve wanted this for awhile, and I’ve been working at it really hard,” Mandi says. “It’s overwhelming to finally have the title of police officer.”
Mandi will be begin patrol early next year after attending the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. He and Shinkle were hired as part of an expansion of police department staff and due to the retirement of Officer Dave Orr.
