While the “electric” Levi Jungling and the stacked senior class at Pella Christian may get the notoriety for the football team’s success this season, a talented group of underclassmen may become a reliable playmaking group.
The sophomore class had a nice start to the 2016 season in Friday’s 42-20 win over PCM, with safety Noah Treimer recovering a fumble and corner Kyle Fynaardt snagging an interception.
There were some miscues early for both, however, but Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski is confident they will find their own place on a team dominated by the upperclassmen.
“They just need more playing time, they played well [Friday] and they rebounded from early mistakes they made, so I’m really proud of them,” he says. “There just going to be great players, and you’ll be calling their names quite a bit this year.”
10th-grade Kicker Nathan De Bruin and the special teams unit was also a thorn in the Mustangs side, with three squib kicks recovered, and the young kicker was also a perfect 6-for-6 for point after tries.
Pella Christian takes their 1-0 record back home to host Albia this Friday night.
