The PCM Cross Country team ran at their first meet this past Thursday in Ames at the ISU Cross Country Course.
Head Coach Eric Karr’s squad had been working hard in the offseason to prepare for the 2016 season and the hard work showed in their first meet. The girls took 2nd as a team with three medal winners and the boys took 8th with a medal winner and second place finisher in Senior Chris Ellens. For the girls a team that finished 3rd at this meet a year ago, the improvement is seen in the jump to now second place and for the Boys 8th might not be where they would like to be now, but from 10th a year ago it shows that with hard work comes rewards. Coach Karr doesn’t ask for the world from his squad, “Just do the best you can today.” Is what he tells them before every race. For both the boys and the girls it’s not all about the medal winners and top finishers, it’s those underclassmen and those middle runners that have shown improvement since the start of practice that has Coach Karr the most excited. “I am just so excited for this season and proud of their work tonight.” The Mustangs look to build off their early success and hard work as they’ll travel to Pella on September 3rd.
