Central College yesterday officially announced that there will be three new members inducted into their Athletics “Hall of Honor” this fall. The trio has one big thing in common: they all played for a national championship in their respective sports. Earning the prestigious honor this year are Candace Wilson DuRegger, Al Dorenkamp, and Rick Perry. DuRegger is a 2001 graduate and was named the 2000 American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Player of the Year. She was also a three-time national champ for the Dutch. Dorenkamp graduated in 1975 and was the captain of Central’s 1974 Division III football championship team and later became the school’s A.D. Perry was an Academic All-American wide receiver in 1988 for a Dutch football squad that finished runners-up, and he also played guard for the men’s basketball team before graduating in 1989. These three will all be honored during Central’s homecoming events on September 30 and October 1. Created in 2002, Central’s Hall of Honor recognizes those student-athletes who performed exceptionally in athletics as an athlete, coach, or administrator, and distinguished themselves in life after graduation through service and leadership. With the three joining this fall, the illustrious Hall of Honor grows its membership to 54.
