The Pella High volleyball team opens the 2016 season tonight at home against Ballard.
While a lot can be said about the Lady Dutch volleyball team’s nine seniors and their accomplishments over the past two years, two sophomores may be the key in getting the team to their end of season goals.
Emily Holterhaus and Natalie Clayberg are expected to contribute in a big way for Pella this season. The lauded Holterhaus led the Lady Dutch in kills and kills per set last season, and Clayberg was an effective role player with her offense, blocking, and serving over 72 sets of work one year ago.
Head Coach Catie Brand is excited to see what the young players can do to not only establish themselves this year, but how they can also grow the future of the program.
“They come back being experienced varsity players as sophomores, and they’re starting to find their spot on the court and really get into the groove and looking like experienced varsity players, and to do that as sophomores really compliments our strong senior class,” Brand says.
Tonight’s match against the Bombers is a 9th grade / JV / varsity triple-header at Pella High. Varsity is scheduled to start at 7:15.
