The first sport to see actual competition at Central College this fall is the women’s golf team, who opens the 2016 season on Sunday.
Coach Tim Wilkinson says that their sights are set on the Iowa Conference meet, and trying to leapfrog from second place last year to the top spot this year.
He says it’s a long journey with many stops along the way.
“We are going to have to do some qualifying to see who our top five are to take to some of these tournaments. We want to make sure that we’re not sprinting in a marathon. Even though our season is not very long, it’s easy to burn yourself out.”
Central’s schedule features regular season tournaments at each of the Iowa Conference tournament locations – in Cedar Falls and Decorah. Wilkinson hopes that experience will pay off when the title is on the line in early October.
The first meet of the season is a one-day tournament in Marion this Sunday – the Mount Mercy Classic.
