With six weeks until voters decide the next president, the youngest group of the electorate watched the two candidates from the major parties debate for the first time.
Central College hosted a debate party–the first of a series planned, in the Maytag Student Center last night.
Professor of Political Science Dr. Andrew Green tells KNIA/KRLS News many young voters are becoming politically involved now for the first time this cycle.
“I think our students are starting to get engaged with the process to learn about the candidates,” Green says. “I know our student development group here at the college has been doing a lot of work around voter registration and satellite voting and absentee voting.”
Additional debate viewings will be held Oct. 4, 9 and 19, as well as to watch the election returns on Nov. 8.
Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS to hear more from Dr. Andrew Green and his colleague Dr. Randy Renstrom about their insights to the 2016 election.
