After non-conference wins in Spokane, Washington and Rock Island, Illinois, the Central College football team finally returns to Pella for its first home game of the season.
The 2-0 Dutch welcome 0-2 Buena Vista to Ron & Joyce Schipper Stadium this afternoon for the opening weekend of Iowa Conference action.
Central coach Jeff McMartin says that the Beavers, who lost their non-conference games to Mayville State and St. John’s, will bring a fairly straight forward approach into today’s contest.
“They aren’t running tons of exotic looks and fronts and plays. They’re fundamentally sound and they never quit and they’re hungry to get a win. They’ve played three quarterbacks this year and have created some big plays. Defensively, they’ll rotate some guys in and out, but for the most part their secondary does a good job and the guys up front do a good job. They work really hard to take away your running game.”
Kickoff today is set for 1:00, and our broadcast team of Trevor Castle, George Wares and Andrew Schneider will hit the air at 12:35 with our Pella Motors dot com Radio Pregame Show.
At 11:00 this morning, the public is invited to a special ceremony at the stadium entrance to unveil a new bronze statue of legendary coach Ron Schipper.
