The Knoxville Marching Band has exceeded its $60,000 goal to purchase new uniforms.
With a flurry of activity during Homecoming Week, the band has raised over $65,000 and hopes to see more pledges roll in. Amid preparation for Homecoming and their first band competition last Saturday, band members reached out to business leaders, middle-school musicians helped Hy-Vee serve a tailgate party Friday, and fans filled band members’ hats with cash at the football game. Music Booster Pat Finan say money raised beyond the goal will allow the band to invest in improvements that will extend the new uniforms’ durability. McCartney is exploring the purchase of drum major uniforms, which weren’t part of the original goal. The Music Boosters also plan to invest in the future, placing money in a secure fund as seed money for the next uniform drive, around 2030. For a list of donors go to http://knoxvillemusicboosters.org
