The Marion County Humane Society is having a 30th Anniversary party tomorrow.
The event commemorates three decades of the organization caring for neglected and homeless Marion County animals, according to Tami Montgomery, one of the founders. Montgomery says after hearing about the treatment of animals at the county pound at the time she and a friend petitioned the City of Knoxville to be allowed to take over the operation. Party attendees are encouraged to bring along their pets, but the Society asks owners to bring papers certifying they are up to date on all shots and have dogs on leashes and cats in crates. The party will feature gourmet hotdogs, a reunion of adopted animals, 30% off new adoptions, tours of the facility and contests for animals and their owners. The anniversary festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All animal lovers are encouraged to attend.
