Flu season is beginning in Iowa.
Marion County Public Health Nurse Judi Van Hulzen encourages people to get vaccinated not only to protect themselves, but also to protect vulnerable people in Marion County. She says infants under 6 months of age cannot be vaccinated and influenza can be a very serious threat to their young immune systems. Older adults also have little defense against the disease and the best way to protect them is to get vaccinated to prevent the flu’s spread. Public Health offers flu shots. Underinsured, uninsured, and those meeting certain economic standards may qualify for a free or reduced cost flu shot.
