The driver of the truck involved in Sunday’s vehicular assault in Des Moines was released and made his initial appearance in court.
Chad Winninger was transported to the Polk County Jail on charges of Willful Injury causing Serious Injury, Willful Injury causing Bodily Injury, Criminal Mischief 1 st degree and three (3) counts of Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury.
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Highland Park Little League Complex located at 4700 NW Morningstar Drive in Des Moines Sunday on what was discovered to be a vehicular assault on two men just before 9 a.m. While responding to the scene, deputies discovered the truck hit two men before colliding into the concession stand. Winninger, of Monroe, was seen walking in the middle of Morningstar Drive away from the scene. When deputies approached Winninger, he began fighting with officers. With the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol and the Des Moines Police Department, deputies were able to take him into custody and transport him to a hospital for examination.
