In other Central College action this weekend…
The Dutch volleyball team took part in the St. Kate’s Invitational Friday and Saturday in St. Paul, Minnesota. Friday night, Central lost in four games to each St. Mary’s and Hamline. Then Saturday, the Dutch rallied to beat Marian in five games before falling to the hosts in four.
The women’s tennis started Iowa Conference play Friday by rallying from behind to beat Wartburg 5-4 in Waverly. Then Saturday the Dutch were shutout by defending league champion Coe 9-0 in their home opener.
Running at the Les Duke Invitational Saturday in Grinnell, the Dutch men’s cross-country team finished third out of 17 teams. Isaac Steffensmeier was second individually and Nick Fairley took sixth. A depleted women’s squad was also in action, taking eight place out of 18 teams. Rachel Peter paced Central with an 11th place finish.
Both Dutch soccer teams smashed Crown on Saturday in Minnesota. The women got it started with a 9-0 victory as six different players scored goals. Kallie Holte netted a hat trick and added two assists. The men also had six different players find the back of the net as they finished the doubleheader sweep with a 6-1 win.
