The PCM Mustang cross country team took to the Pine Knolls Golf Course in Knoxville on Tuesday as they participated in the Knoxville Invitational along with 19 other schools from across the area.
The top runner for the Mustangs Senior Chris Ellens came into Tuesday’s race on a two race win streak after winning both the Lynnville Sully Invitational and PCM’s home invitational last Thursday. With more schools attending the Knoxville Invitational and some being higher classed, it would take a very strong effort if Ellens was going to win his third straight invitational. A strong effort from the PCM Senior is just what the fans attending the race would get as Ellens would finish 2nd by just 0.06 seconds to the 7th ranked runner in Class 3A. Ellens coming in as the 15th ranked runner in Class 2A would out race both the 5th and 8th ranked runners in Class 3A. With the strong performance that almost landed a third straight win it is no surprise that Ellens has now moved up to the 12th ranked runner in Class 2A. Ellens and the rest of the Mustang squad will next run at Norwalk on October 3rd, and with Ellens continuing his domination it’s just a matter of time before the Senior climbs even higher on the Class 2A individual rankings.
