The Pella Christian Eagles lost star quarterback and linebacker David Kacmarynski late in the first quarter, but still rolled to a 49-0 victory over I-35 last night in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
Kac was ejected for targeting on a special teams play with the Eagles in front 14-0. That loss caused the Eagles to shift personnel offensively, moving the talented Levi Jungling from wide receiver to quarterback in the wild cat package.
Jungling had already caught an 84-yard touchdown pass from Kacmarynski, then he bolted for three rushing touchdowns as Pella Christian built a 42-0 halftime advantage.
Defensive Coordinator Mike Boender came up to the broadcast booth to chat after the game, and said that Jungling was a pretty good plan B behind center.
“We’ve been practicing have Levi at backup quarterback. He’s an electric runner, and that showed tonight on the field. We were probably a little shy on the pass, but he picked that up with the run and carried the team.”
Jungling racked up 194 yards on just 12 carries, and finished with 278 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns.
Defensively, the Eagles allowed just 144 total yards as they pitched their third straight shutout. Jackson Flagel was a key cog, racking up five tackles and a sack.
Pella Christian is 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in district play. They’ll head to Mount Ayr next Friday night to take on the Raiders.
