As it was last year, the Pella football team entered week two with a lot more questions than answers about their roster and where they stood in the state.
Consider most of those answered.
No. 3 Pella rode a three-touchdown third quarter to pull away from a talented DCG squad and win 35-13, as heard live on kniakrls.com. The Mustangs struck first with an interception return for a touchdown, and Pella responded with their own score before a scoreless 2nd quarter brought a 7-7 tie into the locker room at the break.
Head Coach Jay McKinstrey says the way the Little Dutch came back after a sloppy first half would be a big test to what kind of team this would be this season — and they responded.
“We asked them if it was time for this team — the senior class and the younger kids, to grow up a little bit, and we asked them if they needed to mature, and said the second half is going to be a “growing up” second half, and to see where they are in that maturity process,” he says. “The kids came out did exactly what we asked them to do.”
The Little Dutch are 2-0 and have won a state-best 30 games in a row. They begin district play next week at Bondurant-Farrar.
