Even in a 37-13 season opening victory over Oskaloosa, Pella football coach Jay McKinstrey has several things for his team to work on. One of those is finishing drives.
The Little Dutch threw two interceptions, lost a fumble, missed a field goal, and failed to convert on fourth down, all inside of Indian territory last Friday night.
McKinstrey feels that’s something that both he and his players can get better at with more repetition.
“If you look in the last several years, we’ve had explosive plays and we haven’t had to finish as much down in there. So maybe I need to get better at that and help the guys prepare. We didn’t have the explosive plays (last Friday night) that finished in the end zone, like a 58-yard run, so that’s something we need to work on.”
McKinstrey’s club have its chance to show if improvement has been made when a tougher opponent comes to town for the final non-district game of the season. The Little Dutch host Dallas Center Grimes at 7:30 tomorrow night.
