A strong thunderstorm prompted a severe thunderstorm warning for the northeast part of Marion County Monday afternoon.
Gusty winds and hail were reported along Highway 163 for the lone warned storm tracking along the highway corridor. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was live on the air with coverage at the beginning of the warning until it expired at 5:15 p.m. Four staff members were on the air, with many others at the KNIA/KRLS Studios in Knoxville assisting with team coverage. Reports from the WeatherEye Weather Center and from all around the warned area were received.
Heavy rain was also reported, with rainfall rates of over a half-an-inch per hour reported near the strongest portion of the storm.
