A game that took awhile for teams to get their opening game jitters out of the way did not go the way of the Simpson Storm on Saturday, falling to the Blue Devils of the University of Wisconsin-Stout 45-30.
Tied 3-3 after the first quarter, both team exploded in the 2nd and 3rd with 7 total touchdowns that saw a tie game at half, but Stout pulling ahead in quarter number three 38-30. With time winding down, the Storm would have the ball deep in their own territory looking to tie the game, but quarterback Caleb Frye under threw a ball that was intercepted by Stout and returned for the game sealing touchdown. Receiver Jordan Dabney for Stout led the way offensively with 223 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while on the Storm side running back Jordan Beem rushed for 171 yards, and Frye threw for 258. New Head Coach Matt Jeter told KNIA/KRLS Sports that despite falling behind by two scores, the team didn’t give up and continued to fight. The Storm play game two of their season next Saturday at Illinois College.
