Traveling to Dubuque to open their Iowa Conference portion of the schedule, the Simpson Storm ran into the buzz saw that was the Spartans and fell 41-20 as heard live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA.
The Spartans quickly ran out to a 20-0 lead before the Storm offense could fight back with a reception touchdown to Braden Meints to get on the board. Simpson would continue to fight back while trailing and have a chance to pull within one score at 27-13, but Dubuque answered every Storm rally with a touchdown to put the game out of reach.
Storm quarterbacks Caleb Frye and Sam Sasso combined for 193 yards and a pair of touchdown passes, but also threw three interceptions. All-Conference running back Jordan Beem was held to 65 yards on 23 carries, and defensive end Isaac Frazier had 2.5 sacks to lead the Storm. Simpson falls to 1-2, and they will continue Iowa Conference play and conclude their four game road trip to start the season next Saturday in Storm Lake to play Buena Vista.
