Looking for their first win of the season on the road against Illinois College, things looked grim against the Blueboys as the Simpson Storm Football Team fell behind 14-0 early on in the first quarter. Behind a defense that turned up the intensity, a backup quarterback, and the leg of kicker Drew Jensen the Storm came from behind to secure win number one 25-23.
After giving up two big plays in the first, the Storm defense would begin to control the line of scrimmage, giving up only one more touchdown and a field goal the rest of the way, while the Storm offense endured an injury to starting quarterback Caleb Frye and found its groove.
A rushing touchdown by Braden Meints and a long pass from backup Sam Sasso to Devin Norman were the only touchdowns by Simpson, but four field goals from Jensen turned out to be the difference in the game, including one with 1:10 left in the game to seal the deal. The Storm are now 1-1 on the season, and begin conference play next Saturday at Dubuque.
