The Pella High and Pella Christian volleyball teams go head-to-head tonight in a Little Hawkeye Conference Showdown on the home floor of the Lady Dutch.
Pella comes into the match with a 6-2 record, and they’re 1-0 in LHC play after sweeping Grinnell a week ago. Pella Christian is off to a 3-3 start to the season, and is also 1-0 in the league, beating Oskaloosa in five sets last Tuesday.
Eagles Coach John Evenhouse tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that when his team is playing well this season that they’re really good, but they’re making too many mistakes so far for his liking. He says they’ll have to be better tonight against Pella.
“Pella’s an excellent club. We saw them in the preseason at the Central camp and they beat us pretty good. They’re one of the top teams in 4-A, but we’re improving and we’re going to give them a battle.”
Lady Dutch Coach Catie Brand says that this is a match that her team looks forward to every season.
“It’s always a friendly, but competitive match, and we know that both teams will come ready to play. PC traditionally puts up a strong block, so we want to make sure we are intentional with our offensive attack. Serving will be a key factor as well.”
This match always draws a large crowd, and fans of both teams are reminded that construction at Pella High School has cut into the available parking and blocked the usual entrance to the gym. There are signs directing traffic to the temporary entrance, which is located on the west side of the school.
