Central College’s volleyball team is riding a five-game winning streak, which as pushed their overall record to 9-8 this season, and they’re in second place in the Iowa Conference at 3-1.

Coach Kent Clayberg says that a big key to his team’s success so far this season is their in-game adjustments that the girls are making on the fly.

He says that their own hitting percentage is going up from set-by-set-by-set, while the opposition’s hitting percentage goes down from one set to the next in each match.

“Everybody has tendencies and shots that they’re most comfortable with. So if we can identify what somebody wants to do and find a way to take that away, we’ll force them to think on their feet. Everybody battles momentum and the angst that comes with not being able to do what you want to do, and if we can increase the anxiety on one side of the net, preferably the other side, then good things happen.

The Dutch will travel to Cedar Rapids on Friday for their next match, and a win would guarantee Central a winning Iowa Conference record this season.
