The Knights of Columbus in Pella presented a check to the Pella Community Schools special education department yesterday.

Funds raised during their 2016 Campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities were donated by the Knights and members of the Pella Cross Country team–who won the fundraising team challenge, to staff and members of Special Olympics at Pella High School. More than $5400 was given to the district, which is four times last year’s amount. Special Education Teacher Lorri Grubb says she’s grateful for the support to local special education programs.

“Sheer amazement, and awe, and thanks, and it’s just a huge amount of money from the community that we will get to benefit from,” she says.

Overall, the Knights of Columbus nearly doubled the funds raised during this year’s Campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, which benefits special education at Pella and Pella Christian, as well as the Christian Opportunity Center.
