As the 2016 Iowa high school football state playoffs are about to begin this Friday.

A Senior quarterback from the 7th ranked team in Class 2A the PCM Mustangs hasn’t garnered much attention this season despite being among the top quarterbacks in the state in many statistical categories. Senior Sheldon Speers who took over the starting quarterback job for the Mustangs this past fall hasn’t just led his team to an 8-1 record, he’s thrown for almost 2,000 yards on just 127 pass attempts good for 10th in the state of Iowa in yards. Speers also has 28 touchdowns on the year, good for 3rd in the state with only six interceptions that gives the Senior a quarterback rating of 268.8 and a completion percentage of close to 75%. With play makers like Seniors Luke Greiner, Noah Clark and Sophomore Wes Cummings lined up alongside the quarterback its no surprise the Senior is having the break out year he is having in 2016. Playing quarterback isn’t the Seniors only contribution to the Mustangs football team however, as he is a returning all district corner back from a year ago and is tied for 1st on the team in interceptions at three. If the Mustangs have any hope of advancing deep into the Class 2A bracket, it will be because of the Senior leader they have lined up under center.
