Pella Christian dispatched Central Decatur in the regional semifinals last night, leaving the Eagles just one step away from the state volleyball tournament.

Pella Christian controlled the first and third sets, but had to rally in the second set, with the final score of 25-12, 27-25, 25-13.

The Eagles were shaky in their tournament opener on Monday night, and Coach John Evenhouse borrowed a ploy from a big league baseball manager to get his team going.

“We needed something to loosen us up. I watch the Cubs every once in a while, and Joe Maddon does this kind of stuff with his team. So we had goofy hat day today. They had to wear them to school, they had to wear them into the gym. We took them off for the game, but it really loosened us up and the girls were ready to play.”

Pella Christian improves to 25-12 and will play seventh-ranked Council Bluffs Saint Albert on Tuesday in Creston in the regional final for a right to go to state.
