Second-ranked Pella Christian hosts number nine Sigourney-Keota in the opening round of the class 1-A playoffs tonight.

The two teams are both offensive powers, with the 9-0 Eagles sporting the third best offense in 1-A, and the 8-1 Cobras right behind at number four.

But they do it in different ways. Pella Christian’s passing attack produced the third most yards in 1-A, while Sigourney-Keota’s ground game is the second best in the class.

Coach Rich Kacmarynski says that one of his team’s keys to success will be their ability to slow down the Cobra’s unique single wing offense.

“The single wing is a very deceptive offense with a lot of deception in the backfield. There are a lot of pulling linemen and a lot of down blocks. It’s one of those things where we need to work our assignments. Everybody’s got a job to do, and they’ve got to do them.”

Pella Christian has struggled defensively against Sigourney-Keota the last few years, and it’s led to three consecutive regular season victories for the Cobras over the Eagles.

Game time tonight is at 7:00 on Eagle Lane, and Trevor Castle and Larry Hessing will have the call on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30.
