The Pella School Board met with Representative Guy Vander Linden and Senator Ken Rozenboom to discuss issues surrounding education at their meeting yesterday.
Both local legislators talked about budget challenges the state will face in the coming year and issues with revenue coming due to a depressed agricultural economy. They also received suggestions from the board and Superintendent Greg Ebeling about assessments and other programs.
Representative Guy Vander Linden tells KNIA/KRLS News the main focus was on spending issues.
“We talked about what we always talk about with school boards which is state funding and some of the requirements that we have legislated would be on them like third grade reading proficiency and a few other things about selective types of funding,” he says.
Regular business followed the session, which included construction updates at Lincoln Elementary and Pella High School.
