Twin Cedars has faced adversity form time to time this season and has lived to tell about it. Last night the Sabers faced more adversity than they have faced all season and still came away with a 24-22 thrilling win over Iowa Valley in the first round of the eight-man football playoffs as heard on kniakrls.com. The first half was like a heavyweight title fight as both teams left scoring opportunities on the table and the half ended with Twin Cedars up two/nothing after an early safety. Iowa Valley would forge ahead 8-2 when star running back Bennett Goettsch scored from 25 yards out. Twin Cedars would tie it when Jake Knox hauled in a 48 yard touchdown pass from Nick Haselhuhn to tie the game at 16. Another Goettsch T-D would put Iowa Valley ahead 22-16 with 29 seconds left which set the stage for a wild finish. After an Iowa Valley squib kick that was picked up by Knox and set up the Sabers at the Iowa Valley 37 yard line when Nick Haselhuhn passed to Jake Knox and then pitched it to Dakota Pinegar who took it the rest of the way for the tying score. Haselhuhn sneaked in on the two points conversion to get the win. While the ending of the game was great, Coach Aaron Allspach told KNIA/KRLS Sports the early drive killers were big in the first half, but they settled down in the second half. Nick Haselhuhn was 16/24 for 237 yards while Trace Embray caught eight passes for 78 yards. Twin Cedars is now 10-0 on the season and will host Midland next Friday for a trip to the semi-finals.
