A Newton woman died in a rollover crash on Highway 163 Tuesday evening.

The Iowa State Patrol confirms Sasha Rae Zinn, 22, was killed in the single-vehicle accident. Zinn was found unresponsive by emergency crews as they arrived at approximately 5:40 p.m. after she was ejected from the 1993 Mercury Tracer she was driving.

A preliminary report from the Iowa State Patrol says Zinn lost control of the car in the left lane heading west near Mile Marker 42, when it veered off the road briefly and then rolled several times back across traffic before coming to a rest on its top near the right side by the shoulder. Police have not determined a cause.

Two other passengers were inside at the time of the crash: Elizabeth Ann Heady, 33, of Chillicothe, Iowa, who was also ejected and suffered serious injuries, and an unidentified male passenger who had minor injuries.

Pella Rural Fire, Pella Ambulance, Pella Police, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Mercy One Helicopter all responded. The road was closed for three hours as crews rescued the victims and police investigated.
