Central senior Sam Markham’s 105 catches this season placed him atop the receiving charts for all of division three college football.

He entered Saturday’s season finale against Luther one catch behind Brian Hunca of Kenyon College. Markham hauled in a dozen passes to Hunca’s five, giving him the top spot.

The 105 catches obliterate the school record of 69, which Markham set last year. His 1,215 yards shatter Chris Johnson’s 1998 mark of 1,007. And his 12 touchdowns tie Johnson and Geoff Lamb for the school record.

In the process, he broke the school’s career receptions and receiving yardage records, and is fifth in touchdown receptions – just five short of the record.

Markham is a senior, but he only used up three years of football eligibility because he sat out to focus on basketball his freshman year. He hasn’t yet made his intentions known as to whether he’ll be back in the red-and-white for another season in 2017.
