A Knoxville man allegedly assaulted police officers and made threats of terrorism at the Marion County Jail while being booked after a traffic stop Friday night.

According to court records, at around 9:30 p.m in the 700 block of West Washington, Corie James Briggs was stopped by officers after they ran his plates and determined he was driving under a barred license. When officers attempted to arrest him he struck one in the face repeatedly with a closed fist.

Later, at the Marion County Jail, Briggs told officers and jailers “When I get out I’m going to hunt all of you down,” and “I’m going to get a handgun and shoot you just like that ol’ boy did up there in Des Moines to those other two officers.”

Briggs is charged with driving while barred, interference with official acts, criminal mischief in the fifth degree, assaulting a peace officer with intent to cause serious injury and making threats of terrorism, both class D felonies.
