The Pella High boys basketball team fell behind 9-0 last night in the season opener against Grandview Christian, but used its talent and depth to pull away for a 71-50 victory.

The Thunder’s rotation included only 6 players most of the night, while the Little Dutch used 11. Those fresh legs eventually allowed Pella to take a lead midway through the second quarter, and they built a 36-20 halftime advantage.

The lead grew to 20 at the end of the third, with Pella cruising in the fourth to the final 21 point margin.

Ryan Van Wky led Pella with 24 points, sophomore Ryan Gustafson added 12, and Donovan Holterhaus scored 10.

The Little Dutch are 1-0 on the season, and will open Little Hawkeye Conferene play with a girl-boy doubleheader Friday at home against Grinnell.
