The Pella Christian Girls basketball team spoiled the premier basketball game in the new Van Meter gymnasium by upsetting the fifth ranked Bulldogs 56-43 Saturday night.

The Eagles started strong opening up a 14 -6 lead in the first four minutes behind two three pointers from junior Kaley Wilson. They went scoreless for the next 8 minutes and allowed Van Meter to tie the score and half time 24-24.

The second half was tight all the way till the 2 minute mark of the fourth quarter. PC broke the game open by making 11-of-12 free throws to secure the win.

Pella Christian was led by Mary Kate Bandstra’s 22 points, Caylee Terpstra added 12, including a 10-for-12 effort from the charity stripe. Morgan Fopma led the rebounding charts with 7.

Up next for the Eagles is another road trip, on Tuesday to Montezuma.

Meanwhile, another Tulip City basketball team was also successful Saturday. The Central men played their second game in the Northwestern Tip-Off Tournament in St. Paul, MN. The Dutch beat the hosts 76-61 to improve to 3-0 on the young season.
