The PCM girl’s and boy’s basketball teams got a pair of wins in dominating fashion on Friday night.

The Mustangs handled the Saydel Eagles with ease as the girls won in a 68-15 throttling and the boys continued the dominance, crushing the eagles inside the PCM high school gym 73-34. On the girls side of things seniors Kayla Jennings and Kaylee Townsend were the top scorers on the night as Jennings rebounded from a five point outing against Roland Story to put up 16 points against the Eagles while Townsend added 14 points of her own. The real story of the game was the stifling defense from the Mustangs who came out with a tenacious full court press at the beginning of the game and really slowed down the Eagles attempt at any offense what so ever. The Mustangs were able to hold the Eagles to just 9 points at halftime and wouldn’t allow even one point in the third quarter as they the Mustangs would lead 53-9 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Head Coach Jeff Lindsey knows his seniors will give their all each night out but he’s happy that it’s starting to trickle down to the younger girls especially on both sides of the ball. On the boys side of things the Mustangs got their first win back on Tuesday night against Roland Story behind a career night from junior Jackson Thomas and his 20 points. On Friday night against the Saydel Eagles going into the game the speculation was who would step up and become that added scoring threat for the Mustangs to help them through the 2016 season. The answer was everyone, as the Mustangs would have multiple double figure scores and even the addition of long range shooting from some younger Mustangs as freshmen Jason Stafford would come off the bench and score back to back long 3 point shots to push the momentum for the Mustangs as they would ride that momentum to a 39-12 halftime lead. The young Mustangs weren’t without a few growing pains as sophomore Andrew Van Ryswyke would foul out early in the 4th quarter but with such a big lead it would not play a factor. Head Coach Fred Lorensen was happy with his young team’s effort. The Mustangs will get back to action on Monday as they travel to rival Pella Christian for a boy girl doubleheader.
