Ashton Messer broke the Pella High School wrestling career pin record Saturday.

He pinned his way through the Montezuma Invitational to win the 182-pound weight class, and in the process picked up his 60th career pin.

That surpasses the previous record of 59, which was set by Nick Brooks in 2001 and tied by Brent Smith in 2010.

Messer had 15 pins as a freshman, 16 as a sophomore, 24 last year as a junior, and already has five this year as he’s started the season 6-0.
