Austin Turner’s jumper with nine seconds remaining lifted the Simpson College men’s basketball team to a 64-63 victory over Central last night in Indianola. Earlier in the evening, the Storm women scored 19 of the game’s final 30 points to win 73-65.

The Dutch men led 32-27 at halftime, were up nine with less than nine minutes left, and still led by seven with 3:37 to play.

An 8-0 run over the next three minutes gave the Storm the lead, and after Colby Taylor nailed a pair of free throws to put Central back up by one, Turner hit the winning shot.

The Dutch had one last chance, but Trashawn Boyd’s shot missed the mark, and both teams are now 3-4 in Iowa Conference play.

Central’s women trailed by eight heading into the fourth quarter, then scored the first eight of the frame to tie the game at 54. Simpson then took control over the final eight minutes to earn the win.

The Dutch women drop to 1-6 in the IIAC, while Simpson improves to 3-4.

Up next for Central is a makeup doubleheader next Monday at home against Nebraska Wesleyan. Simpson is at Coe this Saturday.
