(4-A) #9 Dallas Center-Grimes’ girls beat (2-A) #8 Pella Christian 41-33 last night, while the class (2-A) #1 Eagle boys knocked off the previously undefeated (3-A) #4 Mustangs 58-43 in a doubleheader heard live on KRLS 2.

Pella Christian hung close in the girls game, trailing only 18-17 at halftime against the Fillies, but Jenna Borchers drilled three third quarter three-pointers to help DC-G build a double digit lead. Despite a fourth quarter rally that trimmed the deficit to just six, the Eagles couldn’t complete the comeback, dropping to 6-4 on the season.

Morgan Fopma came off the bench to score 18 points and collect 12 rebounds to lead Pella Christian in both categories.

In the boys game, the Eagles used an 8-0 first quarter run to build a 13-5 lead that they would never relinquish. It was a 9-point lead at halftime and the end of the third quarter that grew to 12 in the fourth. The Mustangs got within four, but Pella Christian eventually wore down the DC-G press for several easy baskets down the stretch to put the game away.

Levi Jungling scored 14 points, Alex Pringle added 11, and David Kacmarynski chipped in 10, all in the second half.

Pella Christian improves to 8-1 and is currently alone first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference at 5-1. DC-G is a half-game back at 4-1, as is Pella.

Both the Eagle girls and boys return to action Friday night at home against Newton.
