Last night Representative Greg Heartsill presented a review of his experience as a delegate to the Republican National Convention to a group of about 20 at the Knoxville Public Library.

Heartsill explained that caucuses begin at the precinct level and proceed all the way to the state and national conventions, but emphasized that the groundwork for all political parties is laid at the local level. He says average citizens willing to participate in precinct caucuses are the backbone of the party. Heartsill talked about his experience in Cleveland and shared stories about meeting party leaders like former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
